"Me and My Shadow-Out on a Limb "

51”x 65 1/2”

“Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go”
TS Elliot

This is my second of three in my Jewel Pearce Patterson Exhibition Series “Out on a Limb.”   Challenging myself to try new techniques and to stretch.

This image of my shadow out on a limb jumped out at me as I imagined where I have been with my quilting and where I am headed.   The streamers of log cabins and flying geese represent my tradition- with- a-twist beginnings. Now, I am reaching for the sky surrounded by my new adventures with collaged threads, wonderful textured wool roving, Texture Magic, new machine quilting stitches and many more future unknown journeys.

Quilt constructed using my Picture Image Machine Appliqué process. My shadow and the tree trunk are taken from line drawings of photos I took. Texture Magic, tuck and fold texture used in the tree trunk. Collaged threads with tulle and wool roving images included in the sun. Commercial cotton fabrics.   Machine appliquéd and embellished, then machine quilted with rayon and trilobal polyester threads.
