At the time that Wendy contacted me about participating in this student exhibit, I was designing and creating quilted purses for myself. I admit to having a fondness for purses. I decided to incorporate quilted purses into my piece as all of my purses are carried ‘out on a limb’ (my arm). My favorite artist is Henry Matisse; therefore color, pattern and shape - and usually very bold ones - are very important in my quilt designs. I do not shy away from very strong design elements - that may leave me - from time to time, ‘out on a limb’ artistically. The quilt was constructed using cottons, silks, specialty fabrics, threads, jewelry and other miscellaneous items. Techniques include machine curved and straight piecing, free motion embroidery, fusing, embellishments, machine appliqué and machine quilting. Original Design by:
