“THE BEAR AND THE BOY-I SPY THE
DISAPPEARING BEARS PAW”
73 1/2 ” x 73 1/2 ”
The Bear’s Paws continue to disappear as our
forest and natural lands are destroyed by clear
cutting trees, roads and
highways carving through the
mountains.
Cities with smog and pollution
appear over the horizons. We can only hope
that with compassion and caring, the future
generation can stop this destruction
and save our bears and their paws.
There are 22 full and partial bears paw
blocks camouflaged within the body of the quilt. (This
excludes the border)
Many of the “I Spy” blocks
have been enhanced to be better seen with the
camera’s eye.
The quilt was constructed using cottons, specialty yarns,
fabrics and threads. Techniques include
machine curved and straight piecing,
free motion embroidery,
bobbin work, fusing, couched yarns,
embellishments, machine applique’ and
machine quilting. Quilt started, August, 2000,
completed, October, 2000.
This quilt was chosen as one of the finalists in
the AQS “New Quilts from
Old Favorites” Bear
Paw Contest. It appears in the publication, it
hung in the Museum of American Quilters Society
and recently completed a
two- year
tour of different gallery venues. The quilt also won first place
at the Prairie
Heritage Quilt Show, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and a Viewer’s Choice at
the Salt
Creek Quilt Guild Show, Hinsdale, IL
