“GEORGE THE ENTOMOLGIST,
CATCHES THE QUILTING BUG”

47” x 48 1/2 ’’

Portraying my dad, George Butler at age 77, proudly displaying his first pieced quilt
blocks makes me sing with laughter. After a lifetime career in entomology, (up close and
personal with insects) there is cause to celebrate George finding yet another creative
passion-especially when it is quilting. George turned 80 in April, 2003.

This quilt has appeared in the International Quilt Festival, Houston, the AQS show in
Paduacah and the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Williamsburg. It received an Honorable
Mention at the Prairie Heritages Quilters Show, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and a second
place at the Rock Valley Quilt Show in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Original design inspired by a photo of George taken in November, 2000
Rough-edge applique, machine embroidered and quilted. August, 2001
