Unabashed Free Motion Quilting and Use of Tantalizing Threads
1/2 day
Confident Beginner to Advanced
Come for a shot of courage and gain more confidence in your machine quilting skills!
Wendy’s mission is to give each of her students more confidence in their free motion
quilting - breaking away from pre-determined quilting patterns and encouraging “you” to
become the creator. Come learn her tips for use of the darning foot, the many specialty
threads on the market and new found sources for nature inspired quilting designs. Some
tried and true will be covered too.

To Make a Kit: cut top layer, cut batting and backing layer about 1and 1/2 times larger, pin baste together with safety pins 1 1/2 to 2" long. Pin about every 4" to 5". Bring multiple (3 to 4) kits to practice on and build confidence.

- Bring one quilt sandwich kit with a mottled, or hand-dyed looking fabric to create a wholecloth quilted piece, approx. 18 to 24"
- WE DO NOT HAVE THE TIME OR THE ROOM FOR STUDENTS TO LAYER AND PIN BASTE THEIR SANDWICH KITS, SO PLEASE COME TO CLASS WITH YOUR KITS ALREADY LAYERED AND PIN BASTED
Classroom Set Up
- 8 foot tables at the front of the class for the instructor
- I do not travel with a sewing machine, so would love to be able to borrow one for live demonstrations. I use a Bernina 440QE at home-something comparable is helpful for me.
- quilt rack or two if available for instructor to hang display quilts
- Projector Screen and projector table for use with digital projector instructor will bring
- At least 1/2 of an 8 foot table per student, so there is room for sewing machines, student supplies etc.
